Ulrich Willems is Professor of Political Theory at the University of Münster. His research focuses, among others, on value conflicts as a challenge for democratic politics.
Willems studied Protestant theology, sociology, political science and philosophy at the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal and the Philipps-Universität Marburg. He habilitated in 2008 in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg. Since 2008, Willems has been Professor of Political Theory with a focus on politics and religion at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster and a member of the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics", which deals with the interactions between religion and politics in various historical and cultural contexts on an interdisciplinary basis.
Willems is involved in a large number of research projects dealing, e.g. with the cultures of compromise, the justification of norms in medical ethics and biopolitics and the regulation of religious plurality. He has published widely on these topics.
